SLOKA OF THE DAY:

Bhagavad Gita As It Is -
Chapter 7 Text 9
punyo gandhah prthivyam ca
tejas casmi vibhavasau
jivanam sarva-bhutesu
tapas casmi tapasvisu

punyah--original; gandhah--fragrance; prthivyam--in the earth; ca--also; tejah--heat; ca--also; asmi--I am; vibhavasau-- in the fire; jivanam--life; sarva--in all; bhutesu--living entities; tapah--penance; ca--also; asmi--I am; tapasvisu--in those who practice penance.

TRANSLATION

I am the original fragrance of the earth, and I am the heat in fire. I am the life of all that lives, and I am the penances of all ascetics.

Introduction

The Bhagavad Gita is a sacred Hindu scripture, considered among the most important texts in the history of literature and philosophy. The Bhagavad Gita comprises roughly 700 verses, and is a part of the Mahabharata.

The content of the Gita is the conversation between Krishna and Arjuna taking place on the battlefield before the start of the Kurukshetra war. Responding to Arjuna's moral dilemma about fighting his own cousins, Krishna explains to Arjuna his duties as a warrior and elaborates on different Yogic and Vedantic philosophies, with examples and analogies. This has led to the Gita often being described as a concise guide to Hindu theology and also as a practical, self-contained guide to life. (Wikipedia)

O my Lord, Your holy name alone can render all benediction to living beings, and thus You have hundreds and millions of names, like Krishna and Govinda. In these transcendental names You have invested all Your transcendental energies. There are not even hard and fast rules for chanting these names. One achieves bhakti (love of God) by hearing and chanting about the Supreme Lord's special qualities, even while engaged in the ordinary activities of life in this world. (Sri Narada Muni - Narada-Bhakti-Sutra 37)
Prema (divine love), the fruit of the creeper of bhakti, grows on the creeper only when she attains to the feet of Krsna.
